<strong><a id="titelanker2"></a><h5>Install Language Kit</h5></strong>
These instructions explain how to add Language Kits to a computer which already has System 9 installed.<br />
<div class="indent">1. Place the CD-ROM with the OS 9 software into your CD-ROM drive.<br />
2. Double-click on the <strong>Mac OS Install</strong> icon. Click Continue on the <strong>Welcome</strong> window.<br />
3. In the next window, confirm that the <strong>Destination Disk</strong> is the hard drive with System 9 installed on, then click the <strong>Select</strong> button then Add/Remove.<br />
<div class="indent"><strong>NOTE:</strong> If you click on the <strong>Options</strong> button and get a "Perform Clean Installation" message in a pop-up window, click <strong>Cancel</strong>, then click <strong>Select</strong>.<br />
</div>4. You should now see the <strong>Custom Installation and Removal</strong> window.<br />
5. Check the box next to <strong>Language Options</strong>, then choose <strong>Customized Installation</strong> from the dropdown menu.<br />
6. A new <strong>Select Language Kits</strong> window will open. Place a check next to each Language Kit (e.g. "<strong>Software for the Arabic Language</strong>") you wish to install. You may need to scroll down to see all choices. Click <strong>OK</strong> to continue.<br />
7. Finish the installation procedure, then restart your computer to activate the Language Kits.</div>

<strong>NOTE:</strong> The following Language Kits have been installed in the Penn State Student Computing Labs - <strong>Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, Russian, Central European, Devanagari,</strong> and <strong>Gujarati</strong>.<br />
To switch keyboards:<br />
<div class="indent">1. Open a software application such as a word processor, spread-sheet or any other application in which you need to enter text.<br />
2. On the upper right portion of the screen, click on the <strong>American flag icon</strong> (<a href="http://calper.la.psu.edu/images/wikimages/tltimages/usflag.gif)" >http://calper.la.psu.edu/images/wikimages/tltimages/usflag.gif)</a> Use the drop-down menu to select a script.<br />
3. The keyboard will be switched and an appropriate font will be selected within the application.<br />
4. A flag icon corresponding to the keyboard will be displayed on the upper right.<br />
5. To switch back to the U.S. keyboard or to some other keyboard, click on the flag icon on the upper right.</div>
<strong><a id="titelanker4"></a><h5>Activate Additional Keyboards</h5></strong>
To make additional keyboards visible in the keyboard menu:<br />
<div class="indent"><div class="indent"><div class="indent">1. Go to the <strong>Apple Menu icon</strong> (<img src="http://calper.la.psu.edu/images/wikimages/tltimages/macapple.gif" alt="" align="absmiddle" />) on the upper left of your screen, then <strong>Control Panels &#187; Keyboard</strong>.</div></div></div>

<div class="indent"><div class="indent"><div class="indent">2. Select a <strong>Script</strong> from the dropdown menu.<br />
3. Place a check mark next to any keyboard you wish to make visible. Close the window to finalize<br />
<div class="indent"><strong>NOTE:</strong> Only keyboards from installed Language Kits are available in the Keyboard Control Panel.</div></div></div></div>

To make additional keyboards visible in the keyboard menu:<br />
<div class="indent">1. Select a keyboard from the flag menu on the upper-right.<br />
2. Go to the <strong>Apple Menu icon</strong> (<img src="http://calper.la.psu.edu/images/wikimages/tltimages/macapple.gif" alt="" align="absmiddle" />) on the upper left of your screen, then <strong>Key Caps</strong>.<br />
3. To switch keyboard layouts, select an appropriate keyboard from the flag menu on the upper right.The script will be displayed.</div>

<div class="indent">4. To view the characters available under <strong>Shift, Option</strong> or <strong>Shift+Option</strong>, press these keys respectively to reveal the layout within <span class="missingpage">KeyCaps</span><a href="http://uniwikis.la.psu.edu/KeyCaps/edit">?</a>.<br />

<strong><a id="titelanker2"></a><h5>Install Language Kit</h5></strong>
These instructions explain how to add Language Kits to a computer which already has System 9 installed.<br />
<div class="indent">1. Place the CD-ROM with the OS 9 software into your CD-ROM drive.<br />
2. Double-click on the <strong>Mac OS Install</strong> icon. Click Continue on the <strong>Welcome</strong> window.<br />
3. In the next window, confirm that the <strong>Destination Disk</strong> is the hard drive with System 9 installed on, then click the <strong>Select</strong> button then Add/Remove.<br />
<div class="indent"><strong>NOTE:</strong> If you click on the <strong>Options</strong> button and get a "Perform Clean Installation" message in a pop-up window, click <strong>Cancel</strong>, then click <strong>Select</strong>.<br />

To make additional keyboards visible in the keyboard menu:<br />
