Minutes, April 12, 2006

Present: R. Bukoff, S. Clark, V. LeFevers, B. Leuck, C. Wrenn.
Absent: S. Merritt
The minutes of March 15, 2006, were approved.
The committee met to discuss JSTOR feedback from the Centenary faculty. It was decided that a global email survey to all faculty would provide the quickest and most thorough response in the last two weeks of the semester. S. Clark will create the survey. Once he has feedback from LRC, he will send it out to the faculty.
The cost to subscribe to JSTOR’s Arts and Sciences I – III databases will be $9,000 a year for the first three years, followed by $4,300 a year for each subsequent year.
JSTOR has not yet replied to a query from S. Clark concerning a total cost for the entire JSTOR archives—not just A&S I-III. He will attempt to obtain this figure for the college.

Prior to the meeting, S. Clark sent out a global email to faculty introducing JSTOR and alerting the faculty to his upcoming demonstration of this database at the March 20 faculty meeting.
Steve demonstrated searching on JSTOR to the members of LRC; various search strategies were discussed. The committee believes that the most effective demonstration will include articles that can show a variety of elements: tables, graphs, maps, artwork, music, formulas, etc.
Steve will contact Sarah Lee at JSTOR to see if he can have individual access over the upcoming weekend to allow himself time to practice searching on JSTOR and to select the most advantageous examples.
