My main interests in using technology in the classroom centers on the use of CMC to create an authentic environment for TL use. I teach both Heritage and Non-Native speakers of Spanish, and as many of them cannot afford to travel abroad, we do chats and asynchronous conferencing between the Heritage and Non-native groups to create a comfortable space for students the use the language. Actually, I've found that using these HL and NNS groups from within the same campus community often encourages these students to meet up with one another outside of the CMC environment in the "real world" where they not only have opportunities to use the TL but can also get a taste of the target culture sort of creating a mini-Spanish world for them both on and off of the computer.
